Property Tax Relief for Older Adults & Caregiving Families
Many states and local communities offer programs that can help older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and qualifying homeowners reduce their property tax burden. Depending on where you live, assistance may include property tax exemptions, credits, freezes, deferrals, or other forms of relief.
For caregivers, these programs can be especially important. If you are caring for an aging loved one who owns a home—or helping manage their finances—property tax relief may help lower household expenses and make it easier for them to remain safely in their home.
Because programs and eligibility requirements vary by state and community, we’ve provided a resource above that can help you explore property tax relief that may be available where you live.
It only takes a few minutes to check, and you may discover a benefit you or your loved one didn’t know was available.

Medicare’s GUIDE Program for Dementia Care & Caregiver Support
The GUIDE (Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience) Model is a Medicare program designed to improve care for people living with dementia while also providing support to their unpaid family caregivers.
For families who qualify, GUIDE may provide access to a care navigator, 24/7 support, caregiver education and training, help finding community resources, and respite care so caregivers can get a much-needed break.
One of the biggest potential benefits for caregivers is that eligible participants may receive up to $2,500 per year in covered respite services, which may include in-home respite, adult day care, or facility-based respite.
Eligibility requirements apply, and services are provided through participating GUIDE dementia care programs. If you care for someone with dementia who has Original Medicare, this is a resource worth exploring.
